SHIFTING AUTOBIKE INTO HIGH GEAR SEAN SIMPSON, CEO AND CO-FOUNDER OF AUTOBIKE

Sean Simpson, a mechanical engineer, enrolled in the Ross School of Business evening MBA program in fall 2009 to get his idea for an automatic-shifting bicycle on the road to success. AutoBike, which launched in 2011, ended up winning $10,000 at the 2012 U-M Victors’ Challenge competition and receiving $250,000 in seed round funding from Betaspring, a Providence, R.I.-based startup accelerator program for technology entrepreneurs. Simpson is now selling the first production bikes through his website, www.evolvethebike.com.
