Making College Campuses Safer

Companion is Making College Campuses Safer

Companion is an app developed by University of Michigan students that allows for a peer-to-peer safety connection through mobile devices. Companion utilizes a phone’s GPS, prompting users to enter their destination and share their route with select contacts, who are able to view a live map of the user’s location and are notified if anything goes wrong.

The company recently teamed up with the Public Safety office at the University of Michigan, and expects to launch on several campuses in the Midwest such as Michigan State, Eastern Michigan University, Indiana University and Oakland University. The app is also expanding east to the campuses of Syracuse and Vanderbilt.
